Belarusian craftswoman from Krupki revives Irish crochet lace technique

A Belarusian craftswoman from Krupki is reviving the technique of making Irish crochet lace. For seven years, Lyudmila Doilid has been studying this art that dates back to the 14th century. First, using yarn, she knits the so-called motives – images of leaves, petals or geometrical patterns of various sizes and shapes. Then, she puts together different motives in one piece with a crochet.

The art of Irish crochet lace inspired Lyudmila Doilid to create a unique collection of lace hats, cardigans, jackets and dresses.

At first, Irish crochet lace was white only. Later, modern crafts people painted their lace in a multitude of colours. The workplace has been upgraded, too - some crafts masters arrange their lace on mannequins, others use special tables with a soft basis - this is, by the way, another know-how of the Doilid family.
