First-ever Code of Culture adopted in Belarus in Year of Culture

The first-ever Code of Culture has been adopted in Belarus in the Year of Culture. The document is the first one in the former Soviet Union space. The systematic set of laws, rules, regulations in the field of culture was worked out not only by professionals in the sphere of culture. The draft Code was presented to public discussion. We can say that the new law was developed by all adult Belarusians.

The Code as a legal document was signed by the President of Belarus after the approval and adoption of the two chambers of parliament. For the first time the notion of cultural security is introduced and the concept of culture itself is edited. In general, the document includes 64 profound changes. The Code will enter into force six months after publication.
