By Larisa Gulyakevich: Today, the Belarusian State Philharmonic was rehearsing before a concert to honour one teacher – Professor of the State Academy of Music Lyudmila Shelomentseva. Her students dedicated a big anniversary concert to her – Flowers for the Teacher.

The activity of the legendary pianist Lyudmila Shelomentseva is an epoch in the development of the Belarusian piano school. But the biggest gift that a teacher can get is the success of her students. They continue her work, they pass on the experience, and constantly perfect their skills.

After the Belarusian Conservatory, Lyudmila Shelomentseva, a talented young pianist, studied at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory and became a laureate of the first National Pianists Contest. In the 1960-70 she participated in concerts and performed with solo programmes and with ensembles.

Professor Shelomentseva still gives master classes. And now, both beginners and experienced Belarusian pianists cannot wait to attend the music lessons that have been given by the professor in Japan, Poland, and many other countries.
