The Federation of Trade Unions currently brings together more than 4 million Belarusians, or 96.5% of the economically active population.

The congress of the Belarusian Trade Union Federation, held on Friday in Minsk, was attended by the Belarusian President. The main discussion topic was the organisation’s roadmap until 2020, but Alexander Lukashenko spoke about the situation in the country as a whole, the economy, social policy and international relations. His main message sounded as follows: preserving labour collectives is one of the most fundamental tasks. Priority should be given to the fight against unjustified recession and part-time working schedules; fair wages, favourable working conditions and social guarantees should be provided.
