President comments on most pressing border protection issues

22 января 2017

The decision to introduce a five-day visa-free entry to Belarus for the citizens of 80 countries has been worked on for 1.5 years and negotiated with all interested parties, including Russia.

The introduction of temporary migrant accommodation centres in Belarus will be financed by the European Union who will allocate 7 million euros. Those will be hostel-type facilities accommodating 30-50 people under the protection of the Internal Ministry. The illegal migrants who have been detained by Belarusian border guards or entered the EU from Belarus’ territory will be staying at the centres from a couple of days to several months until a decision on their status or extradition is made.
