Belarus and Moldova make big step towards each other

By Natalia Breus: Belarus and Moldova have made a big step towards each other as Moldovan leader Igor Dodon paid his first presidential visit to Belarus. Belarus is building dialogue with Moldova on the principles of openness and partnership, as repeatedly confirmed by Alexander Lukashenko.

Moldova has applied to receive observer status at the EAEU in October.

Igor Dodon shared his thoughts on the republic’s future in large interview to the TV News Agency prior to his arrival in Belarus.

Moldova advertises itself as a platform for entering the markets of European and Asian countries. Assembling Belarusian trolleybuses and tractors has made it possible not only to launch a program for renovating public and agricultural transport, but also to revive industrial projects. This is important for a country where the issue of jobs is relevant and the industrial sector accounts for the lion's share of income. Almost two thirds of Moldova’s tractor fleet is Belarus-produced. The country hopes to restore its tractor production with the help of the Minsk plant. Assembly plants for trolleybuses, including hybrid wireless ones, are already operating, and it is time to think about the joint production of electric buses.

Joint projects in the agroindustrial complex are a special niche. Chisinau is ready to offer wine products in even larger volumes and import fertilizers and chemicals from Belarus. The trade house Cricova has been operating in Belarus for 12 years. One of the proposals to Moldova, announced at the business forum, concerned rolling stock supplies from Belarus. Work is underway on establishing a joint project with MAZ.

A new round of Belarus-Moldova negotiations will help increase the volume of mutual trade from 200 to 400 million dollars.
