Belarus-Ukraine interaction in terms of industrial cooperation, mechanical engineering, transportation, the agroindustrial complex, culture, education, sports and tourism is planned to be discussed as part of today’s intergovernmental commission meeting in Kiev.

According to Dmitry Mironchik, Head of the Information Department and Press Secretary of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, the agreements to be reached during the intergovernmental commission’s meeting are expected to help intensify cooperation between Belarus and Ukraine in major bilateral agenda directions and increase the volume of mutual trade.

Last year, Belarus and Ukraine managed to eliminate key barriers to mutual access to the market. Issues related to the validity of sanitary and hygienic expertise for Ukrainian products imported in Belarus’ territory was taken off the table and a special duty imposed on a number of Belarusian goods imported to Ukraine was abolished. Over the first five months of the year, the volume of trade between the two countries has increased by almost 27%, amounting to about 2 billion dollars.
