Polina Smolova to represent Belarus at the Eurovision Song Contest 2006

Expressive, impassioned, sexual and extravagant. Her life is a storm of emotions, events and impressions. The charming ensign, the student and the winner of numerous international competitions, Grand Prix holder of “Slavonic Bazaar- 2005”, Polina wins hearts of listeners extremely quickly. The singer does not cease to surprise with effective shows on a stage. Her extraordinary style is the legislator of a fashion. Professionalism, talent and individuality have become the face of Belarusian participant Polina Smolova.

INTRO
Polina Smolova is one of the most well-known and successful performers in the Belarusian music community at the moment. The last year has brought plenty awards to the singer: the Grand Prix at the Slavonic Bazaar-2005 and Contest for Young Performers; a honorary title ”Inhabitant of the city of Minsk”; and according to the results of voting at Belarusian Music Awards “Teleportation” she’s named “Person of the Year”.
The next step in her career – victory at the Belarusian selection concert for the Eurovision Song Contest 2006. Polina will represent Belarus with the song ‘MUM’, specially written for the European competition (lyrics by Andrey Kostiugov and music by Sergey Sukhomlin).
11th of March Polina has started her promo-tour which includes about 15 countries to visit. Kiev became the first city in the tour list of the performer. Apart from Ukraine other countries, such as Russia, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Spain, Germany, Malta desired to greet the Belarusian participant.

REFERENCE POINT
Qualifying round on participation in "Eurovision-2004" has brought to Polina wide popularity. With a song "Song of love" the singer firmly settled in Belarusian show business. The following year became crucial in her career. In spring 2005 her debut album "Smile" was on sale at all musical shops around the country. Tracks from the album, such as "Rain", "Song of love", "Fowler" were on the top of charts for a long period of time. The album was sold out extremely quickly. In summer Polina took part in competition of young rivals at the international festival of arts “Slavonic Bazaar- 2005” and won Grand Prix.

BACKGROUND
Polina began her music career in various children amateur bands. The singer sang at children folklore theatre " Gostsitsa", as well as in the Belarusian folk band "Zhavoronachki". After graduation from Glinka Music School she joined the faculty of folk song at the Belarusian State University of Culture and Art. Apart from singing, Polina was a teacher and manager of the children’s folk band "Tsernichka". At the moment she is an artist in the Youth Pop Theatre and a soloist of the Orchestra of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
